Research Study Investigating Birders
Would you like to take part in a research study investigating the distinctive features of birders?
My name is Jamal Essayli and I am currently a graduate student at the University of Hawaii working towards a PhD in clinical psychology. One project of keen interest to me involves research on the characteristics of the under-studied population of birders and serious listers.
I have recently developed a survey to investigate positive aspects about birding (e.g., elevated mood, increased self-confidence, greater sense of community, etc.), potential costs of serious birding (e.g., physical, financial, interpersonal), motivations for birding, traits that make birders good at what they do (e.g., increased ability to focus than the general population), and features that distinguish serious birders from more moderate birders and the general population. Participation in the study (which should take about 35 minutes to complete) involves clicking on the following link and answering a handful of online questionnaires about birding and related topics: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Birder
If you have any questions or comments for me, please feel free to contact me directly at my email address: jessayli@hawaii.edu. It is my hope that the results of this study will provide us with increased knowledge about the understudied experiences and characteristics of birders.
Thank you for your consideration!
